Oak Class (Year 6)
Academic Year 2024/25
Hello and welcome to Oak class. My name is Mr Cox and I am the Year 6 class teacher and Deputy Headteacher. I also lead Teaching & Learning, English and PE across the school. I run the School Council which has some very enthusiastic members who are helping to improve the school. I have been teaching now for around 10 years and I am passionate about providing high-quality teaching and learning to all pupils. My primary aim as a class teacher is to provide a safe, engaging learning environment where all learners can flourish and be the best that they can be. In my free time, I enjoy reading, exercising and walking my springer spaniel called Ivy.
Our curriculum themes for the Autumn term are World War Two (History) and Population Change (Geography). Firstly, we will be learning about the outbreak of the war and its impact on women, children and the soldiers who fought. We will investigate the Battle of Britain, the Blitz and the process of evacuation. We will study changes in the global population, investigate the impact of climate change and participate in detailed fieldwork study of how population impacts the amount of traffic and litter in an area. For the Spring term, our themes are The Census (History) and Energy Sources (Geography), where we will make observations from the census and identify changes between periods of time, and study the benefits and drawbacks of different energy sources.
