Willow Class

Hello and welcome to Willow Class!

My name is Miss Brunt and I am the Year 1 class teacher.

We are lucky to have the support of a fantastic Teaching Assistant, Miss Lane. Together, we work hard to ensure that our class is a happy, warm and welcoming place, celebrating each child's successes and building resilience in learning. We have a stimulating and varied curriculum, and we are really excited for all adventures in learning we will have this year!

I really enjoy planning for lessons - especially creating the resources and thinking about all the songs we can learn in worship time! My favourite lessons to teach are RE, Literacy, History, Art and DT - and I am really enjoying teaching Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics!

In my spare time I enjoy painting and drawing, listening to music, reading, watching films and being with my family (especially my nephews and niece!), walking my dogs or just chilling with a nice, warm mug of Vimto. My favourite books to read are the Hairy Maclary series, the Harry Potter books, The Lord of the Rings and anything with a bit of fantasy in it. I have two dogs - Bo and Bean, a bearded dragon named Bay and a leopard gecko called Beni. One day, I hope to visit the Scottish Highlands in an EV Camper Van with Bo and Bean.

Willow Celebration Gallery

Keep an eye out for a note from my teacher! When Miss Brunt or Miss Lane spots your child doing something which reflects our school values or aspires to achieve in their personal learning journey!

Our School Values

Our Reading Worm Challenge! Every time you read for pleasure (at home - parents, please write in your child's reading record - or in school) we will move your name along the Reading Worm. When you reach it's head, you'll earn a certificate! Let's see how many time you can reach his head in one term! Good Luck!

Writing Creatively

Look out for examples of our fantastic creative writing on this page! Each week, we will let our imaginations run riot as we tell stories, report on fantastical news and spin amazing tales of adventure and exploration!

Roger the Roving Red Panda

Roger the Roving Red Panda! The hope is that Roger will  with a different child in Year 1 each weekend – and over the school holidays – and encourage use of language, literacy and locational knowledge, as well as building a sense of responsibility in caring for Roger.

Roger would love to listen to your child read their books to him, or join you if you go out. It would be brilliant if your child could write a short diary entry in the book which will go home with Roger (e.g. Today, we went to Tesco in Lydney. Roger rode in the trolley! When we got home, I read to him.), take photos or draw pictures of Roger. Roger can then come back to school on Monday, with his book, and your child can share their adventures with their class mates! Roger's friend, Hugo the Hippo, was a great success last with last year’s Year 1s, going on holidays and trips around the Forest of Dean, playing with the children and their families and embedding literacy skills! It is our hope that this success will be repeated with Roger this year.

Homework! Go to Purple Mash and Numbots for your homework - launched every Saturday for the following week!

Monday 13th - Friday 17th November 2023

This week we learnt a lot about what bullying is and how we can identify it. In PSHE, we understood that to be a good friend, you needed to be loving, kind, use kind words and hands, say sorry and be respectful. We were able to say what the difference is between being unkind, a tease and a bully. We now know that bullying is being deliberately unkind or hurtful and that behaviour is targeted at an individual or a group of people over a period of time and is not a one off.

We all decided that it felt a lot nicer to hear kind words and use kind hands when we are with our friends.

Teddy Bears Picnic Friday 17th November. To mark the end of a very successful 2 weeks looking at and learning Nursery Rhymes, we celebrated by having a Teddy Bears Picnic!
