School Council

Bream C of E Primary School

Our School Council

What is a School Council?

A school council is an elected group of pupils who act as representatives of their classmates in discussing school issues with the headteacher, deputy headteacher and staff.

Why do we have a School Council at Bream?

At Bream, we believe pupil voice is highly regarded and that pupils should have the opportunity to share and discuss their views. One of the ways pupils can express their ideas is through our School Council. The School Council is elected by their classmates and they meet with Mr. Cox fortnightly to explore and act on ideas that have been shared.

Each class across the age ranges, starting from Year 1 through to Year 6, has a representative that has been elected by their peers. Each class also welcomes 'Guest Councillors', who join our strong team each term, to allow more children the opportunity to be involved. Our children are always enthusiastic members and are keen to fulfil their role as Councillors.

What do our pupils think about the School Council?

  • They think it is important that as a Councillor they represent everyone in school and carry forward ideas from their peers in class.
  • They believe they should be an outstanding role model to others in school.
  • All think it is important to raise money for school and other school supported charities.
  • School Council is fun and they enjoy coming to meetings to discuss important things.

What did our School Council achieve last year (2021/22)?

  • They helped the PE Co-ordinator in ordering playground equipment to improve play times
  • They planned out the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee (games, food ideas etc.)
  • They worked together to write a letter that went out to parents informing them about the Jubilee celebrations
  • They suggested afterschool club ideas which teachers actioned
  • They helped the PE Co-ordinator plan out Sports Day
  • They supported Emma and Becky (Gardening Club) during a plant sale
