Academic Year 2026/27

Hello and welcome to Oak class, my name is Mrs Griffin and I am the Year 6 class teacher.  I am the maths lead across the school and am so proud of the journey our school has been on over the last few years!  I am an experienced teacher and have taught every year group throughout my 20 year career!

Last year I taught Year 5 and I am excited to continue the learning journey with the children as they move into Year 6, I look forward to seeing them flourish.

I am passionate about providing  high-quality teaching and learning to all.  My primary aim as a class teacher is to provide a safe, engaging learning environment where all learners can flourish, develop independence and be the best that they can be.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling with my husband and two daughters.  As a family, we love anything Disney whether that be watching movies or visiting Cinderella’s Castle!  I also enjoy holidays with my two dogs Milo (a cocker spaniel) and Slinky (a miniature dachshund).  

In Oak class we are lucky to be joined by Mrs Jones, Mrs Davey and Miss Brice, who are the class teaching assistants.

Our curriculum themes for the Autumn term are World War II (History) and Population Change (Geography). In our study of World War II, we explore the causes of WW2, the Battle of Britain and how it was won, making inferences about the Blitz, understanding the emotions and experiences of evacuees as well as the impact war had on womenšs lives and finally, considering why migrants come to Britain. We learn to analyse sources, assess how beliefs and places drive change, and understand why different interpretations of history exist. As we go, we develop skills to evaluate historical significance and explain how World War II shaped our lives. In our geography unit on population change, we explore the changes and distributions of population, changes in birth and death rates, the factors that influence migration, the impact that climate change can have on the population and how population impacts traffic and litter in our local area. We will learn how to read and interpret cartograms as well as revise our map reading skills to help us identify human features, locate countries and cities, and applying six-figure grid references.
